…At this point there is sufficient land, water and available energy to feed well over twice our current human population, plus our over 300, Million pets.
Feeding more than twice the folks currently living here (Earth), and feeding us “Well” is actually a rather conservative estimation. However,

Most Chicken Harbors Harmful Bacteria
83% of Chickens Tested for Consumer Reports Had 1 of 2 Sickening Bacteria.
Consumer Reports says — that “fresh poultry may [does] carry naturally occurring bacteria and should be properly handled and cooked,”
Dec. 4, 2006 — Even if you go for the more expensive organic or antibiotic-free chicken, the chicken you buy at the grocery store probably contains bacteria that can make you sick.
Careful handling and aggressive cooking can reduce, but not remove the risk!!!
A startling 83% of the chickens tested in the recent Consumer Reports investigation were contaminated with one or both of the leading bacterial causes of food-borne disease — salmonella and campylobacter.
That is way up from the results of 49% in 2003, when the group last reported on contamination in chickens, and similar to the contamination found in 1997, when almost three-fourths of the broilers Consumer Reports tested were positive for salmonella or campylobacter.
In their new report, “Dirty Birds”, investigators with Consumers Union, which publishes Consumer Reports, concluded that paying more for a chicken does not increase your chances of getting one free of illness-causing bacteria.
In fact chickens labeled as organic or raised without antibiotics and costing $3 to $5 per pound were more likely to harbor salmonella than were conventionally produced broilers that cost more like $1 a pound.
Jean Halloran of Consumers Union reports that fewer than one if five birds tested (17%) were free of both pathogens (Not free from all pathogens only those two for which they were tested), that’s the lowest percentage of clean birds recorded since the group began testing chickens eight years ago.
Investigators for the independent consumer group tested 525 whole broiler chickens from leading brands like Perdue, Tyson, Pilgrim’s Pride, and Foster Farms, as well as organic and other brands raised without antibiotics.
The chickens were purchased at supermarkets, mass retailers, gourmet shops, and natural food stores in 23 states in the spring of 06.
Among the findings:
15% of chickens tested were contaminated with salmonella, compared to the 12% reported by Consumers Union in 2003.
81% harbored campylobacter, up from 42% in 2003. This bug is the main identified cause of bacterial diarrhea illness in the world.
13% of chickens were contaminated with both bacteria, up from 5% in 2003.
84% of the salmonella organisms analyzed and 67% of the campylobacter were resistant to one or more antibiotics. In the 2003 report, 34% of the salmonella and 90% of campylobacter were resistant.
“The problem of antibiotic resistance is related to both the widespread use of antibiotics in animal feed to promote growth and the widespread use in humans,” Halloran says.
Major brands tested did not show better results than smaller brands, overall, based on tests of 78 chickens from each brand.
Halloran says it is clear routine testing is needed.
“81% [campylobacter] contamination is intolerable, in our view,” she says.
What Can You Do?
Sustainable living and “Realities”
The following are some very telling statistics and comparisons that came out of the extensive research undertaken by John Robbins way back in the 80s.
This is a brief eye opener. The long version (452 pages of reality) is John’s best selling book “Diet for a New America”.
Since the publication in 1987 of “Diet for a New America,” beef consumption in the United States has fallen a remarkable 19 percent. “Diet for a New America” is considered by many to be one of the most important contributors to this move in the right direction…
But a disappointing reality is that overall; humans are still causing tremendous unnecessary harm to the environment and to themselves with unsound dietary choices.
For the most part, people just don’t know what they are contributing to, and how we can all be much happier and healthier while preserving the beauty and wellness of the planet.
It is easy and rewarding to make things better
USDA Recalls over 100 Million Pounds of Beef Products
Of the 143 million pounds recalled, some 37 million pounds of the beef had already been sent to school lunch programs by the time of the recall, most of which has already been eaten by schoolchildren!
In reaction to pressure stemming from a secret video shot by the Humane Society, the USDA has issued the largest recall in the history of the United States, a massive recall of 143 million pounds of frozen beef.
One bite can turn a happy human into a “Mad Cow-Human”.
There is no known cure for the condition, and you can’t cook or irradiate the disease causing “Prion” out of the product.
It takes years for the consumer’s brain and spinal nerve tissue to turn into a spongy mass of slime, but that is the eventual reward which results from a bite or two of “Mad Cow Meat”.
The Pastures Aren’t So Green
The green pastures and idyllic barnyard scenes of years past are now distant memories.
The following is excerpted from the GoVeg site @ http://www.goveg.com/factoryFarming.asp
The green pastures and idyllic barnyard scenes of years past are now distant memories. On today’s factory farms, animals are crammed by the thousands into filthy windowless sheds, wire cages, gestation crates, and other confinement systems. These animals will never raise their families, root in the soil, build nests, or do anything that is natural to them. They won’t even feel the sun on their backs or breathe fresh air until the day they are loaded onto trucks bound for slaughter.
Animal Communicator
In this wonderful mixed-up world there are 1001 empty justifications for animal abuse.
Interestingly, a great number of flimsy excuses are recited by self proclaimed “Animal Lovers“. Just the other day I overheard it again. I have heard numerous versions many times before. The conflicting statement generally stems from a discussion about the best diet for one’s pet. This time, per usual, the speaker was a thoughtful animal lover. Typically, but not always, the animal-lover/animal-abuser is intelligent, articulate, and a loving person. She/he may even be a devoted caregiver, and/or work with her/his healing hands in the health care field. This is a person who “Thinks” and “Cares”, albeit, selectively. This is a person who will do anything for the welfare of her companion.
The declaration usually proclaims something to the effect that; “I contacted such n’ such Animal Communicator” or “Over the years I have talked to many Animal Communicators…” The interaction with the ANIMAL COMMUNICATOR leaves the client feeling assured that the animals sacrificed [murdered] by humans for lunch-and-fashion are happy, even honored to serve the “Higher” beings in this way. The comforting assurance being based on the report(s) directly from the various non-human subjects through the psychically attuned medium are often just what the client was hoping for.
No Meal is an Island
When you fuel your being with the products of compassion and wholesome-ness, you become a product of compassion and wholesome-ness.
If you fuel yourself with the products of pollution, pain, inefficiency and failure, you are a product of pollution, pain, inefficiency and failure.
There is a lot connected to (Many fingers of association) the production of a food. And all of the embodied, accumulated history of the food’s life becomes part of the body and “Energy” of the consumer.
South Koreans took to the streets. Young and old, people from all walks of life protested in huge numbers and in no uncertain terms, the lifting of the ban on proven dangerous U.S. beef. Some in the Korean government have bowed to the unfair and unrelenting pressures from the U.S. and the powerful cattlemen’s lobby.
In South Korea, public outcry over the lifting of a ban on US beef continues to bring the country to a standstill.
On Tuesday, more than 80,000 people took to the streets of Seoul to demand the ban be reimposed.
It was the largest rally so far since daily protests began more than a month ago. The entire South Korean cabinet has offered to resign in response to the protests. South Korean lawmaker Kang Gi-gap said the cabinet had been ignoring the people’s wishes.
