What About Turkeys?

What About Turkeys?

If you still eat animals, you can help “Free the Turkeys” by simply not eating a turkey’s body this thanksgiving.

If you don’t eat animals you are already saving the lives of (On Average) over 100 defenseless animals every year, and you can spread the word this thanksgiving to help free more Turkeys.

Why would you want to eat the dressing, but spare the bird?

Why would you bother to set a Turkey free?

Consider that your Thanksgiving Turkey’s natural lifespan is 10 – 12 years

Elapsed time from birth to slaughter of the turkey on your table;
9 – 15 weeks (That’s WEEKS).

Ratio of “living time” gifted to your turkey by The Creator, to the “living time” allowed by the factory farm industry supported by turkey eating consumers;
Fifty to One (50:1).

Percentage of “Living Time” stolen from the birds by those who eat them;
98%

Turkeys’ Neurological capacity to feel pain;
Same as humans, cats and dogs.

Natural behavioral tendencies; Turkeys are social, playful birds; they enjoy the company of others. They relish having their feathers stroked and like to chirp, cluck, and gobble along to their favorite tunes. Anyone who spends time with them on farm sanctuaries quickly learns that turkeys are as varied in personality as dogs and cats. When not forced to live in filthy factory farms, turkeys spend their days caring for their young, building nests, foraging for food, taking dust-baths, preening themselves, and roosting high in trees.

Number of humans slaughtered by glutinous birds each year in the U.S.;
Zero

Number of turkeys slaughtered by (For) humans;
Over 18 Million in 2007

Number of Americans who snuffed out Big-Bird’s life because they were starving, and had no other option;
Zero!

Turkeys’ right to Life (Living out full life span), Liberty and the pursuit of happiness;
Obvious, unalienable, undeniable, God-Given.

Right of humans to deny these rights to Turkeys (The United States’ first proposed national symbol, later replace by the Eagle [who is protected by law]); Illegitimately invented, indefensible, non-existent in reality.

Why humans (Usually via contract) commit (Participate in);

Rape – Artificial insemination, and injections of near lethal doses of growth stimulants and other hormones, antibiotics, various other drugs Etc,

Terrorism – Subjecting non-threatening sentient beings to; Daily conditions so threatening that birds remain in constant fight-or-flight mode, and hormones related to extreme desperation continually saturate the bloodstream,

Torture – De-beaking, toe-trimming, wing cutting (All without the use of anesthetics), separated from family members, forcing birds to spend their short lives crowded wing-to-wing, beak-to-butt, standing in urine and feces, choking and gasping in an atmosphere deficient in oxygen and replete with poisonous methane and nitrogen compounds and saturated with deadly infectious microbes… struggling in conditions severe enough to kill high percentages before slaughter time, And some undergo the increasingly popular practice (Banned in many counties, but legal in the U.S.) of “Flank Battering”, delivering bruising blows to the live bird’s body to “Tenderize” the meat, Then transported to the killing facility, tossed and squeezed into trailers driven unprotected through any and all weather conditions, hung live, upside down on body pearling conveyor hooks… and then,,, well it gets worse.

Murder… Actually premeditated Pedacide (Slaughter of individuals in childhood), turkeys who would naturally live 12 years are inhumanely killed while still youngsters (At about 3months old) and processed for your feast.

Additionally, handling fowl is the easiest way to contract salmonella and campylobacter, which sickens or kills many people every year.

Environment… Factory farming animals to produce food is the single industrial practice with the greatest insulting ramifications on the environment and therefore the future… The near future is the era where our children and grandchildren would like to live in a world with safe water and breathable air. Some people think that it’s just not fair to steal the future from our kids for no good reason. With regards to the wasting and polluting of water, the poisoning of the air, the wasting of resources, the release of greenhouse gasses, the clearing of rainforests (The Earth’s Lungs and Medicine Chest) Etc. industrial “Factory Farm” methods, which produce virtually all the birds killed for Thanksgiving feasts are the worst offenders. Concentrated Factory Farms provide the genesis for very threatening infectious diseases. Such operations for producing fowl are the birthplace of “Bird Flu” as one example.

There is no way to produce a 35 lb., 3 month old turkey without forced feeding, caged immobilization, and huge pharmaceutical input… This can not produce a healthy bird, and eating such “Abuse” certainly does not produce healthy people…
By the way “Organic” Turkeys are still the product of disease producing abuse, commercial “Free Range” is only a deceiving term, and while “Organic Meat” may deliver fewer poisons it’s still murder.

Eating commercially grown animals is a practice which (Because it is so wasteful and polluting) simply is not sustainable on a planet with limited resources and an ecosystem in delicate balance, and such behavior does indeed directly take food away from other hungry people and reduce our ability to provide food and a clean world for those who are now the children we so love.

More and more people just can no longer reconcile the hypocrisy that allows for “Giving Thanks for the Plenty”, when that “Plenty” has taken life from another, fostered the acceptance of killing (By the Billions Every Year) and so damaged our one and only Home Planet as to threaten the well-being of everyone in future times.

It seems to many, who have considered the facts, that there will be no way to excuse such selfish behavior when the grandchildren ask “Why did you so carelessly contribute to the ruination of our only life-giving planet, and what was it like to live in a time when people participated in such horrific and careless consumerism which was responsible for torture and murder of those in their care?”

This is the unholy legacy that turkey eating people bring into their bodies and share with family and friends…

We sincerely wish that everyone has a happy healthy Thanksgiving.

…Thanksgiving is an appropriate time to exercise compassion and not interrupt the peace and happiness of others.

Happy Thanks-Giving, Right to Life for All Society

Notes:

In some ways, ultimately, a turkey is a turkey is a turkey…

By now, most folks should know that poultry flesh is a most efficient vector for the transmission of salmonella, listeria, staphylococci, E. coli and various other infectious entities which are generated and incubated throughout the populations of the forced-feeding operations which supply virtually all the turkeys that people eat; increasingly, poultry is also proving an effective transmission medium for the much feared ‘C Diff’ (C. difficile / Clostridium difficile)’ the intestinal bug (now highly antibiotic-resistant), which sentences thousands of Americans to prolonged bed-confinement, protracted chronic pain, diarrhea and toxic and expensive treatments… By the way, the best known treatment for a meat sourced ‘C Diff’ infection is a fecal implant (injections / implants of someone else’s poop).

Higher quality meat?

Some folks like to ease the guilt (of eating an animal; which automatically orders the slaughter of another one) or minimize the concern of personal risk (from infections, diseases and toxic accumulations passed through meat) by trying to convince themselves that the flesh of someone’s body (a young turkey), packaged and marketed as ‘organic’ or ‘free range’ is a broad step better than regular commercial animal parts; when in fact, the reassuring phrases; ‘organic’, ‘natural’ or ‘free range’ are little more than label marketing, and just another version of regular commercial animal parts (An exception might be ‘wild harvested’ kills).

‘Free range’ means that the facility where the animals were interned had at least one opening through which a bird could fit. It could literally be one hole in the wall of a building housing thousands of birds; and the opening has only to be ‘open’ for FIVE MINUTS A DAY. Typically, the birds have such broken spirits and sick bodies that most lose their instinct to seek fresh air or move about playfully anyway. The door (the opening) is there for the label value of the finished product.

‘Organic livestock’ is indeed sometimes dosed with antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals. Sometimes this is done in accordance with quarantine stipulations (after which they MAY be separated from the herd/flock and then sold as commercial meat), sometimes drugs are administered without affecting the ‘organic’ classification by recording the antibiotic – growth hormone or whatever prohibited drug as an ‘approved substance’; often pharmaceutical intervention happens simply because the producer can get away with it. Almost no one is watching; not 1 in a thousand is inspected, not 1 in a million is tested… And if Washington has its way, soon all inspections will be performed by the producers themselves.

Even GMO feed finds its way into ‘organic turkeys’; if GM feed is the primary feed offered, it’s illegal (can’t be labeled organic), but it is still practiced; if organic feed is the primary feed offered, but GM is also available, it’s a ‘grey’ pseudo-violation which is never prosecuted for. Second and third generation GMO contamination through the feed is routine in ‘organic’, ‘free range’, ‘grass-fed’, and ‘pastured’ commodity animals. You may buy the Bird at Whole Foods Market, but it’s not ‘clean food’ by any stretch.

‘Grass fed’ and ‘pastured’ birds are still fed commercial feed with additives, adjuncts, supplements and pharmaceuticals Etc. And livestock feed used to supplement and fatten ‘grass fed’ and ‘pastured’ animals is generally (or includes) food not appropriate for the physiology of the animal.

Compassion and humane treatment are by no means automatically exercised at fattening facilities just because they produce so-called free range or organic meat; after all, turkey farms are businesses designed ultimately to kill the ‘child birds’. No pay-off until the bird is dead. No matter how green the label might be, imprisonment and slaughter of a youngster is neither humane nor expressive of compassion!

There are more specific / niche certifications which fill a very small share market; including:

Local
Animal Welfare Approved
Certified Humane
Food Alliance Certified
American Grassfed
And others
It’s good to keep in mind that the food industry is about the biggest business in the world (be realistic), and as such, it is rare that things are ‘as advertised’.
For instance:

FREE RANGE: There is no verification process behind this claim, and there is no monitoring organization other than the producer (self-verification is NO verification).

NATURAL: Well, the label term ‘natural’ is the biggest bad-joke in the industry; in all food categories.

Among some of the other ‘sugar ‘n spice / just makes ya’ feel good’ – sounding certifications are:

Animal Welfare Approved, Certified Humane and Free Roaming.
Generally such claims ‘fancy-up’ the label, but… In most cases, the standard-setting process was neither open nor consensus based and usually no one verifies the particulars, or at best, there is one pre-announced audit annually.

In reality, buying ‘organic’ or ‘free-range’ birds or beasts, in no way assures that the animals are treated well; hardly…

Obviously, all the animals you eat were killed for your plate, at your order (O.K., I nominate myself for ‘The Most Obvious Statement of the Year Award’… Sorry), but also, importantly, before the final day, no matter what the label says, not one-in-a-million Turkeys-for-sale were treated with a hint of dignity or regard for their comfort or rights.

Typically, organic and free-range producers cram thousands of animals together in sheds or filthy lots, just as standard factory farms do, and the animals often suffer the same torturous mutilations; such as debeaking, dehorning, wingtipping and castration – without painkillers. It’s a business; the model is: costs down – profits up.

Organic and free-range animals are slaughtered in the same filthy slaughterhouses as animals from standard factory farms; and it’s NOT like the facility gets thoroughly cleaned in between. Organic cadavers test positive for the same antibiotic resistant bacteria and other sickening bugs as the regular mass-market birds.

At some point in the future, we like to think; humans (at least the vast majority of our race) will have moved beyond salivating over misery, and will more honestly consider the ramifications of their many consumer choices.
Right now, anyone who wishes to move ahead of the (theoretically predicted) slowly ripening ‘Humanitarian-ization of humans’ can do so easily by simply not eating animals; the best time to make the change is YESTERDAY, but one could make the move at what might be the most appropriate time of the year, Thanksgiving, by FREEING A TURKEY, going Turkey-Free.

Blessings
